Beauty of Pearls
The Beauty of Pearls
People have treasured pearls for ages past as a thing of beauty and value. Who knows who the first one to discover a beautiful pearl. Pearls in their natural state comes in different colors due to where they are found. We find perfect ones in nature, also imperfect ones. Christ Jesus mentioned pearls in Mathew 13:45-46 in one of His parables. Christ usually related His parables to common things that brought interest and recognition to His words.
Mathew 13:45-46 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who when he found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
Just think one minute about this parable, just what does it mean; Could it possibly be asking a question to you? Could this be the question that is preached over and over; “are you sold out to Jesus?” Before you answer examine yourself; Are you really sold out to the Lord; Have you counted the cost of what it takes to really be Sold Out?
Christ Jesus Is the Pearl of Great Price! “For God so loved the world that He gave His Only begotten Son that whosoever believes on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Christ Jesus Is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Have you counted the cost of what it takes to follow Jesus?
The apostle Paul in Ph 3:8 says, “Yet indeed I count all things loss for the excellance of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.
Again the apostle Peter says in 1Pe 2:7, “Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those that are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.”
I ask again; Are you really sold out to Him who brings eternal life? Only you know in your heart. Do you think more of the things, the earthly treasure you posses, your money, your house, your car, your jewelry, your family, anything you own; if you do, then you are not sold out to Jesus Christ, and you have not counted the cost.
Let us ponder one more thing about the Precious Pearl. A pearl is started in a lowly oyster that is laying on the sea bed from one grain of sand. Now this grain of sand must be irritating to the body of this small creature. Over time the grain of sand being constantly polished within the body of the oyster grows into a thing of beauty; and when the oyster is harvested the beautiful pearl is exposed.
We, when we follow our Precious Saviour, are like the lowly oyster. Our grain of sand that sometimes irritates us, makes us feel uncomfortable at times, is the Pearls of Wisdom that comes from the Word of God. When we are born again the Holy Spirit of God lives in us. We are to follow Jesus in our lives, forsake the world, do not compromise to worldly manner. When we live in Christ Jesus we are to follow His example of life. The pearls of wisdom that comes from Gods Word is what makes us grow in Christ and makes us spiritually rich. This is what makes us forsake the things of this world; This is what makes us into servants of God; This is what makes us to be hated by the world; This is what makes us to have the love of God in us whereby we can even love our enemies.
The 7th chapter of Mathew is a warning to not judge; the chapter is giving instruction to us on how to deal with the hypocrites, the self righteous, the evil doers, the scoffers, and the unrighteous around us.
Mathew 7:6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” We see numerous examples in the bible how to deal with the scoffers, evil workers, and despisers of Christ. Following is a few examples of how we are not to cast our pearls of wisdom.
Proverbs 9:7 “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. Do not correct a scoffer lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
Reproof the despisers: Ro 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? He 10:28 Anyone who has rejected Moses law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of Grace? 2nd Pe 2:10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleaness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries.
Jesus Christ on the scorners: JN 7:7 “The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that the works are evil.”
When the harvest time is ready for us; Will we be counted worthy to be accepted into the kingdom of heaven? Think about it!
