Let’s Have a Beer Summit With the Gulf Coast

June 1, 2010- The Political Moo

President Obama gave a press conference yesterday, which seemingly brought down the spirits of the American people, and in tow, the Dow Jones. Blaming everyone under the sun, and still not really knowing how to convince the world that he knows what he is doing, Obama seemed to loose some of his ambiance today as he fumbled through the conference and left with no questions.

No doubt this has been embarrassing for the Obama Administration and probably a little unfair. After all it is not their fault the oil company had an explosion. Just like it was not George Bush’s fault that a natural phenomenon called a hurricane slammed into houses that are below sea level, thus drowning a city. When it becomes the fault of the Federal Government is when the Federal Government fails to act. I’m tired of hearing “well the Bush administration didn’t.” Two days. It took them two days. In this case we are talking over 30 days while millions of gallons of oil just pour into the ocean.

Today the American people were told that the White House needed 30 days to put together a report. Last week we saw Obama finally go down and explore the disaster that once was the gulf coast. That is the most action we have seen in a month. It took a month to get this? This should have happened at least by day two. (Since we are into comparisons)

Then there is the lingering question, why now? Could it be the White House needs a diversion for the Joe Sestak scandal? Maybe they are hoping that by looking like they are involved the American people will forget about Sestak. Only, that does not seem to be happening.

What should the White House do? We all know that you can’t go back in time, so the White House should make up for the time. They say they have this report that took thirty days. Fine, use it. Consider reading it (along with the other bills laying on your desks.) In the meantime, give BP everything they need in order to fix this. Give Bobby Jindal everything he needs to help Louisiana. Don’t use this as an excuse to stop drilling, to raise our gas prices, to put more pressure on the American people who are already suffering enough. No moratoriums. Be fair, do what is right and get the job done.

That is the political moo for today.
